Imagine If Privacy Policy

Imagine If Insights & Strategy, Inc. (“Imagine If”) is committed to protecting the privacy of information we collect from clients, research participants and visitors to imagineifinsights.com. Our policy applies to all client and personal data that we collect or use in the course of doing business, and covers all client information and research participant data we maintain at our office or store on our network.

By accessing or browsing our website, participating in our surveys, contacting us on social media, or providing information to us, visitors confirm that they have read and understood the entirety of our privacy policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting an amended version. Last updated: April 9, 2020.

Participant, Visitor And Client Info Collected

As a market research and strategy company, Imagine If conducts research and analytics projects where we collect information that participants voluntarily provide to be part of the research. We may also collect information to understand visits to our website or subscriptions to our newsletter or access of the free content we offer on our site.

This information may contain some “personal data” or “personally identifiable information” as defined under applicable law. Data we collect as part of our studies may include demographic data and opinions on products or services or brands provided by participants. As is the case with standard industry practices in market research, online surveys are done in a fashion that keeps market research participants anonymous. This is typically done by way of randomly assigned numbers or codes, so the identity of participants is not identified for us or our clients (commissioning the research).

In certain studies, we may collect photo, video or audio responses. Participation is always voluntary and participants have the opportunity to decline involvement or to opt out of research even after previous agreement, as clearly identified in all studies and each survey.

As part of our service offerings we offer, we also conduct Insights Labs (also known as consumer communities). These engagements require recurring interaction with participants over a specific time period. For this situation, we typically possess personal data about visitors (including a way to contact them), but other Insights Lab participating consumers would not have access to this information.

Incentives
When a research project involves a gift, incentive or a competition, we may ask for a name and contact information to notify visitors if they are selected and/or send them their incentive gift. Rest assured, participants are never obligated to provide information to participate in a survey, but if they don’t provide it, they may not be able to participate in the incentive that may be offered in connection with the survey.

We do not collect personal data without consent of any participants. However, consent may be withdrawn at any time.

We lawfully collect and process data supplied by participants as a result of their consent.
When it comes to some studies, we may obtain what is referred to as “personal data” or “personally identifiable information” as defined in the law.

We collect this data from clients, and third-party providers who are connected to studies. As to some studies, this may be participant’s contact information so we can invite them to participate.

With other studies, we may purchase existing data, such as demographic, behavioral, or interest information, from third parties and link and connect that data to survey responses so we can perform more thorough analysis in the study. We will provide participants with separate notice prior to using the cookie or pixel and offer them an opportunity to exit the study without participating any further. In these studies, participants remain anonymous to us the relationship is typically done through the use of third-party intermediaries who are able to connect their responses to other data through technology, such as cookies, pixel tags, or other information identifying them which they possess (not us). In such cases, we lawfully process and collect the information they provide under our legitimate interest to perform our responsibilities owed to clients who request and authorize the specific study or research.

Social Media Commentary
As to other studies, we may collect public posts or comments visitors have made about a product or in connection to a product review on social media. These posts may be on social media pages of various brands and/or companies. These posts may also include the username or “handle” they used to post their comment or review. In using those, we will not reveal the actual handle or username. We do this lawfully in an effort to perform our duties to our clients who request and authorize the study which involves our collection and processing of the information.

Our Website
We may collect certain information about visitors to our website, including IP address(es), device and browser types, dates and times of visits, names of the visitor’s Internet service provider(s), the state or country from which our website was accessed, other websites or pages, on the web, where our visitors linked to the websites, what they did while visiting the website (e.g., links clicked on).

This is done by way of “cookies,” which are not only a delicious treat we all know and love, but they are tiny files placed on their internet browser when they visit our website, in order to offer them a more personalized experience in the future. We do this by understanding and remembering their specific preferences from their visit.

At times, cookies, pixels, or “web beacons” may be placed on our website by service providers; we do not permit their personal data to be collected or accessed by cookies, pixels, or web beacons. If they opt out of receiving cookies from our website, they can do so by disabling cookies in their browser settings. If they disable cookies, some functions on our web pages may be reduced.
At this time, our systems do not respond to browser do-not-track signals, and do not treat such do-not-track signals as “do not sell” signals under CCPA (defined below).

Finally, when visiting our website, they are provided the option to purchase items or to sign up for our newsletters, and if they do, we collect the information they supply for use in the promotion of our own businesses to them. If visitors wish to be removed from our email list, they may email us at hello@imagineifinsights.com

Outreach to Us
If visitors are our client or work for our client, we may have collected various contact, business, and in some instances, financial information about them in the course of our relationship with them or their employer. In those cases, we lawfully collect and process the information in order to fulfill our responsibilities to them or the company them work for.

If they use social media (whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or our blog) in order to contact us or find out about us, we may collect their publicly available profile data, information relating to their interaction(s) with us, and any information they post on message boards which relate to our business.

As for the data collected as part of our research activities, we collect data in, and in connection to, our studies for research purposes only. When we use that information, our use is limited to that very specific purpose.

In many cases, this information (which is generally anonymized) is shared with the client requesting the study pursuant to duties owed to that client.

In some cases, we may need to share personal data with third parties for additional services as part of a research project. In such cases, we require the third party to follow all of the same privacy protection regulations as followed by Imagine If and we enforce this requirement by contract.

In doing so, some of our research-related activities—for example, the inclusion of a study participant’s photo or video in information we provide to our client—might fall within the definition of “sale” under these circumstances.

Under these circumstances, we may be required to release personal data in response to a legal request from public authorities including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements, or in response to a subpoena or other legal process.

We do not discriminate financially between those who choose to supply their personal data to us and those who choose not to. If the survey or other research study—the completion of which would result in payment of a financial incentive or entry in a sweepstakes or contest—involves the collection of data and visitors decline to provide that data, they would not be able to participate in the study. If they are required to supply their contact information at the completion of a survey in order for us to fulfill the incentive and they decline to provide their contact information, they would not receive the incentive.

In all cases, Imagine If will take reasonable steps to ensure personal data is accurate, complete, current and relevant and being used only for the purposes intended. We will not process personal data in a way that is incompatible with the purposes for which it is collected or later authorized by the person providing it.
